We focus on the right to education. We advocate education as a human right, aiming for a future where everyone can fully enjoy the right to education in all of its aspects, free of discrimination of any type.
Our vision is a world in which everyone has the right to an education, from early in life and throughout life, based on non-discrimination and equality principles. A world in which education is recognized as a human right in law and practice, and in which all human rights are realized via education. A future in which states and non-state actors can be held accountable for their respective commitments and responsibilities, and where civil society can play a vital role in monitoring their execution.
We advocate for education as a human right by making international and national law more accessible to all. We do research and legal analysis, as well as create tools and guides to help people better understand and apply human rights processes to assert and protect their right to education. We integrate worldwide, national, and local advocacy with practical engagements that lead to meaningful changes on the ground, bridging disciplines (human rights, education, and development), actors (CSOs, international organizations, academics), and language communities.
Purposes
- Human rights can only be realized if people demand their protection in a well-informed and persistent manner.
- Human rights education instills ideals, beliefs, and attitudes in all people that motivate them to protect their own and others' rights.
- It fosters an awareness of everyone's shared responsibility for making human rights a reality in their communities.
Human rights education is a critical component of long-term prevention of human rights violations and a significant investment in the goal of achieving a just society in which all people's human rights are appreciated and respected.
